Gianne de Genevraye is a painter. She paints under the name of Gianne Harper.
Her work is present in collections in France, Italy, Sweden and in the US. Born in California, she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (Painting) at the
University of California Irvine, and had Judy Chicago, Tony Delap, Craig Kaufman and John Paul Jones as professors. After her arrival in France in 1986, she
became studio assistant to Jennifer Bartlett for three years. In 1990 and 1991, she was an Invited Artist at the American Academy of Rome. In 2011 Gianne
painted and exhibited on site in the château gardens where Mary Cassatt lived and worked in France. In Fall of 2012, she finished a painting residency, doing a
project In the Garden of Eden on site in the garden “Jardin des Méditerranées” at the Domaine du Rayol in the south of France.
In December 2012, she exhibited a series of paintings realized at the historic vineyard Hospice du Clos Cristal The Vine in Four Seasons at the Centre Hôpitalier
de Saumur and the paintings were shown at the Château de Brézé in February 2013. She was invited in 2013 to do a residency to paint and exhibit at the Cultural
Center of San Clemente in California. Gianne has completed the first part of her residency at the Hortense Miller Garden in Laguna Beach, California. She will
return in spring 2015 to finish the paintings with the exhibition planned for June 2015.
Gianne is currently showing the paintings done in residence at the Hanbury Botanic Gardens in on the Italian Riviera this spring 2014.
The solo exhibition on site in the Palazzo Hanbury is in June, 2014.
She has a book project “A Perfect Garden in A Perfect Place” under consideration with French publishing house La Martinière, with distribution through Abrams,
NYC.
Gianne also has several other residencies in public gardens in the confirmation process around the world; the Municipal Gardens of Menton, France, the Mortella
Garden is Ischia, Italy, and on the Island of Trescoe in the UK, and in Normandy, France.
